Catalog

Like most auctions, the material being sold is cataloged and printed copies distributed to all clients on our extensive mailing list. Terms of the sale and similar information is written up followed by the lots listed by item number, a description and a price guide.

Mail bidding

For our auction bidders who are unable to attend in person, we accept mail bids and will bid on their behalf. Christopher's will begin bidding at 10% to 20% above the limit of the second highest mail bid. In the event that there is only one mail bid, we will bid on the item for that bidder, up to the limit of mail bid. If there is a tie bid from the auction floor, the floor bidder will be awarded the lot.

There is a form for mail bidding in each catalog that may be filled out and sent to us with along with a 20% deposit, which will be returned within 7 business days if no bids are successful. Bids may not be withdrawn after the auction starts. Mail bidders may have their successfully bid lots shipped to them for the cost of postage and handling. Successful bidders must remit payment for their lots within 10 business days after the auction. Items may be sent C.O.D. if the balance is not received within that time. As with most mail bid auctions, the bidders are responsible for the accuracy of their bids, and the inspection and valuation of the lots. Christopher's does not charge a buyers' fee for any auction, and we do not conduct Internet auctions, however a phone bid may be accepted if arrangements are made prior to the auction.

Christopher's now offers 90 days same as cash financing to qualified auction bidders. For more information on this, please call and apply at least one week before the auction. The usual qualifications apply, as with most credit accounts, and is available to Iowa buyers only.

Coin Shows

Christopher's attends many coin shows throughout the year all over the Midwest. If you have been looking for a specific coin that we do not have in stock, we can find one for you, usually at a coin show. Shows are a great place to meet other collectors, talk with other dealers and seek the special coins needed to fill the 'holes' in your collections.

The Des Moines Coin Club hosts a coin show each year, as does the Ames Coin Club and several other Iowa area cities that have local coin clubs. Listings of these shows can be found in periodicals such as Coin World and Numismatic News, which are sold in our store, and also on the Iowa Numismatic Association's web site. The I.N.A. also publishes show dates and location information, and hosts a convention and coin show once a year in one of Iowa's larger cities.
