Brief History
On April 1, 1980 Chris Seuntjens opened a small coin shop in Ankeny, Iowa called Coin World. The primary business was buying and selling rare coins, gold and silver bullion. The gold and silver market was very hot at the time, and many people were cashing in their used jewelry. After some time, Chris began having some of the more unique jewelry re-furbished and began selling them retail and wholesale. Over the years as the business grew, the name changed to Christopher’s Coin Works and Fine Jewelry and eventually Christopher’s Fine Jewelry and Rare Coins, Ltd. And is now located at 3427 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines.

As is the nature of the coin business, Christopher’s has always done a substantial business in wholesale jewelry along with retail. A full time salesman for Christopher’s is on the road traveling throughout Iowa and surrounding states selling jewelry to other stores. Wholesale jewelry sales make up about 50% of Christopher’s Iowa jewelry store division.
